Kaparkan Falls (often known as Mulawin Falls) can be a limestone terraces hidden for years and years from the landlocked province of Abra. This travertine rose to fame in 2015 when images of the terraced water gours were uploaded on the net.
Reaching Kaparkan Falls requires good both mental and physical sturdiness. In a province 9-10 hours ride faraway from Manila, this travertine paradise can only be reached through off-road vehicles. Sometimes, these tough vehicles carrying tourists even falter in the process. If you’re lucky that these monsters of vehicle is not going to surrender, you have to endure a harrowing, bumpy, and muscle numbing ride for a few hours.
The “hell ride to paradise” provides you with insights in the mountainous part of the province. You’ll recognize that limestones are scattered along mountain slopes. Caves are often found under these terrains which is corroborated through the Libtec Crystal Cave in Dolores and Sibud-Sibud Cave in Tineg, even perhaps more in certain areas waiting to get discovered. Several trees including duhat, banaba, etc. will also delight the visitors besides the picturesque plains and mountaintops.
The reasons in the entrance with the falls is often a delight itself. You’ll find picnic tables and benches within the trees. You’ll be able to leave your bags on these tables. Your lunch and snacks should be taken and in the therapy lamp as no foods are allowed within the water.
Walking further may lead that you the breathtaking Kaparkan Falls. The falls covers a large water paradise [yeah, a kilometer!] until it drains on the Tineg River.
Top of the level is made up of shallow gours. This starts in the uppermost terraces, which are not allowed, until the gours draining to steep and several-meter high pools, just below the balite tree.
The low level has greater pool heights than these with the 2nd floor. Further, you’ll find areas of this level which can be on a tourists unless together with local guides.
The bottom degree of the Karakan Falls uses a bit of walking down an incline underneath the forest trees and bamboos on and on up following a cascades to the balite tree.
