With the discharge of the new 2 wheel self balancing electric scooter, 2015 continues to be a fantastic year for gadget fans. All over the world, individuals are taking to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to post pics and vids of themselves zipping around with this 2 wheel contraption which basically seems like a board having a wheel on either side.
A mix of a skateboard and a segway, this mini Segway (devoid of the handle) type thing is growing in popularity, fuelled to some extent by the level of celebrities that have been seen using one. From Bieber assault to Soulja Boy, Kendall Jenner to Jamie Foxx, all have tried their hand only at that nifty little gadget, and appear to possess had a great deal of fun doing this.
Nicknamed the ‘swegway’ (as a result of it’s likeness to the Segway, but a ‘cooler’ version) we’re not sure entirely where this particular two wheel scooter comes from or who invented the very first. Probably it comes from some factory in China. The initial glimpses we got of it in media were an item referred to as the IO Hawk, a scooter that sells for an astonishing $1800. It was back January of 2015. Since then many cheaper versions of the same product have fallen available on the market and the average price currently appears to be around $500.
How does it work? Basically you stand on the 2 panels and shift one’s body weight slightly forward or slightly back and yes it senses this bodyweight change and moves backwards or forwards. It can also turn left or right. This two wheel scooter is proving to be so well received that it is being touted because personal mobility device for the future. Who wants to walk when you are able glide, right? Plus it is a lot quicker than walking, travelling at speeds of 6mph to 10mph.
